BootSkin Buddy by hypknotic BootSkin Buddy by hypknotic
This is a gadget I made a few months back and submitted to Desktop Gadgets. I thought I'd also post it here. You don't need anything special to run the gadget.

BootSkin Buddy is a mini-application created with DesktopX which manipulates *.bootskin archives and their contents for use with Stardock's freeware BootSkin Software.

Considered by many in the Windows OS customizing community as an entry level project for new skinners, *.bootskin files available online nevertheless frequently contain errors, and creating quality bootskins takes skill and patience.

BootSkin Buddy can be used by skin creators to make high-quality, error-free *.bootskin files, and by skin consumers to check downloaded BootSkins for errors before using them.

Features include a full screen preview, complete GUI for creating bootskins, thorough error checking of imported bootskins, and palette editing options allowing the key slot-zero to be set.

Hey I was wondering if you might give me a step by step information on how to use your program? You didn't include any directions on what to do and I have no idea what I am doing wrong. :( Also I would like to create a Progress Bar, but it tells me Required Spex: 22, 9, 16? I understand BMP or bmp part. What re the numbers? Sorry to bother you with this, but I am not skin savvy. :)

Heya, sorry for not replying, I don't get by here much. Unfortunately I can't help much with Bootskin Buddy anymore, except to say that the little bar image should be 9pixels high and 22pixels wide, and as with the larger image have a 16bit depth. Search the forums at WinCustomize.com for bootskin tutorials, or Bootskin Buddy.
Have fun!

I don't go to Wincustomize anymore... they make you pay now for a subscription and downloads. They used to be a great website, now they have conformed to a basic greedy service like most sites nowadays. I will stick with Deviantart.com... at least until they get greedy too. If it is all about bandwith usage and needing support to maintain their site, they should have realized this at the beginning, not make something free for a while and then all of a sudden now make people pay for a wallpaper. I find it sad. The Bible does say that the love of money is the root of all evil. How true that is :(

yep, it's been here a while.

seen posts referring to this at DA/WC but since I never got BS to work.....

but I was reading the WC post on quality control and this go posted to again so I figured what the hey, I'll go look... and while I haven't goBS to work, I do like playing with DTX stuff.

maybe having this baby running will scare BS into compliance, who knows ;)
